Former chief justice of Tripura and later supreme court judge Dipak Kumar Gupta has slammed the Tripura police as 'partisan and faithless to the oath of service' they took while passing out. Speaking in a TV channel Gupta said that at the time of taking oath of service police take a vow in the name of the constitution that they will treat all citizens as equal.
The police should realize that the country and the government they serve are not synonymous . Speaking on police role in Tripura in the context of recent communal violence and arrest of two women journalists Dipak Gupta said that he spent three years in Tripura as chief justice and the situation was different then . "What happened then I do not know but it seems Tripura police have morphed into a partisan force that do not care about the oath of service they took at the time of passing out" Gupta said .
